HOW WILL RISHI SUNAK’S APPOINTMENT AFFECT INDIA?
Mr. Rishi Sunak, born to the parents to Indian descent, aged 42 years, made India proud when he got sworn in as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom on 25th October, 2022. This was yet another example for the world, about how Indians and people of Indian origin have tremendous talent and can prove themselves globally, only if given the chance.
As we know, the previous PM of the UK Mr. Boris Johnson and Indian PM Mr. Narendra Modi signed the 2030 Roadmap for India-UK relations in May, 2021. This roadmap is a partnership between the two countries to work cordially and together in trade, such that it will benefit both the countries. It includes entering into a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between UK and India to open up trade opportunities between the 2 countries.
Now that the new PM of the UK is a man of Indian Origin, it is expected that the UK-India ties will be strengthened further. However, there are still some unsettled woes between the two countries, which will take more than an Indian Origin PM of the UK to settle and solve. The fact that a number of Indian economic offender have taken shelter under the British System, the link between British and Pakistani deep state, UK playing behind the scenes for Pakistan’s deep state in Afghanistan, the radical Khalistani elements who are openly collecting funds in gurudwaras in the UK and radicalizing Sikh youths against India- these are some of the many issues which will prove to be a hurdle for better UK-India ties.
Though we expect Mr. Rishi Sunak to focus more on UK-India ties, we must not forget that is the PM of UK and not of India, neither is he the representative of India in the UK. His job is to improve the UK’s economic credibility, its energy inflation and handle the effects of the Ukraine war. Improvement and betterment of India is the Indian Government’s job, not his.
